Pitt Women Notch Highest Finish at Mid-Atlantic Regionals Since 2017
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh men's and women's cross country teams concluded their 2024 season Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, on the campus of Penn State. Both teams raced their seven top athletes to earn sixth place finishes. The men's and the women's teams improved from their seventh-place performances at the 2023 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship a year ago, with the women recording the highest finish since 2017.
The women's team finished in sixth place with 258 points. Seniors Sadie Carey-Tharp and Winnie Incorvaia led the way for the Panthers, finishing 29th and 35th. Carey-Tharp and Incorvaia completed the 6k in under 21 minutes with times of 20:45.9 and 20:53.7, respectively. Freshman Ella Cook recorded a new personal best time, 21:32.2 for 69th place overall. The group's sixth place team finish is the best team placement since 2017, when the Panthers finished in 5th place.
The men's squad secured sixth place with their score of 180 points as five Panthers finished within the top 45 at the meet. Luke Simpson and Thomas McMahon recorded personal bests and finished consecutively in 30th and 31st, separated by 1.5 seconds with times of 30:36.3 and 30:37.8. Luke Miller was the third Pitt runner to cross the finish line, with a time of 30:50.4. Quintin Gatons finished next in 30:52.2. Finn Walsh recorded a 10k personal best of his own, finishing in 30:58.0 for 45th place.
