
No. 18 Pitt Falls on the Road to Mississippi State in ACC/SEC Challenge

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — No. 18 Pitt slipped to 7-2 on the season with a loss to Mississippi State (7-1) Wednesday evening at Humphrey Coliseum in an SEC/ACC Challenge matchup. Jaland Lowe led the Panthers with 19 points but Pitt could not overcome a dominating performance by the Mississippi State front line in a 90-57 defeat.
The Panthers were outscored 52-14 in points in the paint and out-rebounded 49-27 as the Bulldogs got 47 points and 31 rebounds from the post trio of KeShawn Murphy, Michael Nwoko, and Cameron Matthews. Mississippi State shot 57.8 percent (37-of-64) from the field, while holding Pitt to a season low point total.
Lowe matched a career-high with four three-pointers and added four rebounds and three assists to go along with his 19 points. Brandin Cummings recorded a career-high 12 points but the Panthers could not claw back in the game after a 14-0 run gave Mississippi State a 32-11 lead with 6:30 remaining in the opening half.
Murphy scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and added seven rebounds, while Nwoko had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
