
Panthers' Offense Shines in ACC Win Against Boston College, 79-66

PITTSBURGH – All five Pitt starters recorded double-digit points as the Pitt women's basketball team defeated Boston College, 79-66, on Thursday night in the Petersen Events Center. Khadija Faye led the Panthers with 19 points on an efficient 6-for-8 shooting and 10 rebounds.
Pitt's (10-14, 2-9 ACC) backcourt tandem of Brooklynn Miles and Marley Washenitz combined for 29 points and six assists. Inside, MaKayla Elmore notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 assists and Mikayla Johnson scored 15 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe.
The Panthers were outrebounded by Boston College (13-12, 4-8 ACC) 40-38. Pitt shot 42.1 percent (24-for-57) from the field and 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from 3-point land. Boston College shot 31.3 percent (20-for-64) from the field and 20 percent (4-for-20) from behind the arc.
Pitt opened the contest with its best scoring quarter in program history, netting 33 points in the first 10 minutes.
How It Happened
The Panthers raced out to a 7-2 lead after hitting their first three shots of the game. Pitt's chaos-inducing defense forced five Golden Eagle turnovers and a 3:39 Boston College scoring drought. Miles turned Pitt's defense to offense, scoring six points off of turnovers en route to a 18-2 Panthers run.
Pitt led 33-10 after the first quarter, with five different players scoring at least three points in the frame. The Panthers only allowed one Boston College made field goal through the first 10 minutes of the contest.
The Panthers stayed red hot on offense, netting two 3-pointers to open the second quarter. Faye, Elmore and Johnson all eclipsed 10 points in the first half and combined to shoot 76 percent (13-for-17) from the field. Pitt led 50-28 at halftime, scoring 24 points in the paint and 15 points off of turnovers.
Pitt struggled to extend its lead in the third after missing 12 consecutive shots. The Panthers were outscored 19-11 in the third frame. Pitt held Boston College to just 17 points in the fourth quarter on 31 percent (5-for-16) shooting. Miles netted six of her eight free throw attempts in the final minutes to cement Pitt's second ACC win of the season.
