
Nessler Extends Hitting Streak, Pitt Falls in Game One

Atlanta, GA – The Panthers lost their first ACC contest of the season on Friday night at Georgia Tech, 10-1.
Newly appointed leadoff man, AJ Nessler, extending his hitting streak to 11 games with his single up the middle in the top of the third inning. Nessler leads all Panthers with 24 hits this season. Ryan Zuckerman collected his now team-leading eighth double of the season and scored Pitt's only run. First baseman Luke Cantwell went 1-3 with a single and a sacrifice fly that drove in Pitt's sole run. Lorenzo Carrier drew two walks on Friday. Carrier and Zuckerman are the only Panthers to have reached base safely in all 16 games this season.
Out of the bullpen, Gavin Chillot tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief. In just the second appearance of his career, Antonio Doganiero needed only five pitches to work a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
Georgia Tech scored two runs on two infield singles in the bottom of the second inning to take the take the first lead of the weekend.
AJ Nessler singled up the middle in the top of the third inning and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He would be stranded at first as the Panthers trailed after the first three frames.
The Yellow Jackets added two runs in the bottom of the four inning and three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending their lead to seven through five.
Ryan Zuckerman led off the top of the sixth with a double off the base of the wall in right center. After advancing to third on a balk, Zuckerman scored on a Luke Cantwell sacrifice fly to center that brought home Pitt's first run and only of the ballgame. Coming into today's game, the Panthers were fifth in the ACC in sacrifice flies with 10.
Georgia Tech plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as they went on to take the series opener, 10-1.

Left hander Ryan Reed will take the mound for the Panthers on Saturday for the fifth time this season. He is 2-1 with 25 strikeouts in 19.2 innings through his four starts. Due to impending weather, Saturday's first pitch is now slated for 2 PM.
