PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team signed its first member of the 2025 transfer class in 6-5 forward Fatima Diakhate, as announced by head coach Tory Verdi Friday evening.
Diakhate, a native of Dakar, Senegal, arrives with two years of eligibility remaining after beginning her collegiate career at Georgia.
"We're thrilled to announce the signing of Fatima Diakhate," said Verdi. "She will be able to help us immediately with her combination of size and athleticism on both sides of the ball. We look forward to getting her on campus and helping her continue to develop."
During the 2024-25 campaign, Diakhate averaged 5.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while starting in 28 of her 29 appearances for the Bulldogs. She posted shooting splits of 46.7 percent from the field and 73.0 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, Diakhate recorded a team-best 21 blocks, while adding 11 steals.
She had arguably her best showing of the 2024-25 season against ACC foe Virginia Tech – logging a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor. Notably, she had a career-high 11 rebounds against Tennessee and a career-high five blocks against Arkansas.
Overall, Diakhate tallied 222 points, 188 rebounds, 33 blocks and 14 steals in 57 career games at Georgia.
Diakhate enjoyed a decorated prep career, leading Montverde Academy to the GEICO National Title – the first in school history. She also competed for Canada at the 2019 FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship.
