PITTSBURGH – The 2025 cross country schedule was announced Tuesday afternoon by Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country, Alonzo Webb and Cross Country Head Coach, Griff Graves. Graves will be entering his third season leading the Panthers.
The squads will begin with their annual home meet, the Panther Opener, at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh on Friday, August 29th. The men's 5k is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. with the women's 5k starting shortly after the conclusion of the first race. Both races will begin near the Schenley Park Sports Complex. Admission is free to all fans.
The Panthers will remain in the Keystone State for the following two meets: the Spiked Shoe Invitational at Penn State on Friday, September 12th and the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on Friday, October 3rd. To conclude the regular season, Pitt will head east to New Jersey for the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, October 17th.
Postseason begins with ACC Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 31st. This season, Louisville will play host to the 18 women's teams and 17 men's teams in the conference. The women's 6k and men's 8k races will take place at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with times to be announced at a later date.
Pitt will return to Lehigh for the second instance of the season on Saturday, November 14th for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships, where the Panthers will be vying to finish in the top two as a team to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Cross Country Championships at the University of Missouri. The first four regional individual finishers, not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team, will also earn a bid to the championship meet in Columbia, Missouri.
The men's team returns veteran Luke Simpson. Simpson was the top finisher on the men's side in two of six meets a season ago. Additionally, Thomas McMahon will look to take on a bigger role this year. As a freshman, McMahon hit his stride in the post season, recording personal bests in the 8k at ACC Championships and 10k at NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The women will look to fill the void left by Sadie Carey-Tharp and Winnie Incorvaia due to graduation. Top returners include Gianna Cagliola, Ella Cook, Sarah Hurst, Camy Kiser and Sienna Miller.
Both the men's and women's teams added four freshmen to each roster. The men brought in Jacob Abraham, Graham Heinrich, Tyler Umbright and Mitchell Westlund. Elena Barrall, Camryn McGeehan, Elizabeth Szybalski and Brielle Whitworth joined the women's side.
