PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Track and Field program mourns the passing of David Moore, a former Panther middle distance runner, who passed away on December 14, 2025.
Moore set two individual program records and was a member of two relay program records that still stand today. The Philadelphia native set the men's 800-meter indoor record of 1:49.13 in 1987 and the men's 800-meter outdoor record in 1:46.30 in 1990. He was a two-time NCAA Outdoor First Team All-American in the 800-meter race, earning ninth place in the two-lap event in 1987 and seventh place in 1990.
Additionally, Moore was an anchor on the school record-setting indoor 4x800-meter relay team that set the precedent of 7:20.43 in 1987. That same season, Moore led the sprint medley relay quartet to a Pitt-best time of 3:24.33. The 4x800-meter relay teams that Moore was a part of garnered NCAA Indoor First Team All-American accolades in 1986 and 1987 for their fourth-place finishes at the NCAA Championships.
He is survived by his wife, Pati; their children Ariel, Naomi and Ben; his sister Elayne; a loving extended family and countless friends.
