Pitt Delivers Statement Weekend at CMU Invitational

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers stayed home and produced ten first place finishes, along with a Gesling Stadium facility record, at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational this weekend.
FRIDAY RECAP
- Madisyn Hawkins and Margaret Bila got the meet started with the women's hammer throw. Hawkins and Bila finished first and second, respectively. Hawkins recorded a personal best mark of 52.90 meters to move from ninth to eighth all-time in program history. Bila's best throw measured 49.30 meters. Jaydon Isham threw for 44.55 meters, finishing in fifth.
- Freshmen Mark Haynesworth Jr. and Josiah Montgomery earned second and third places in the men's hammer throw. Haynesworth Jr. moved up one spot on the program's all-time top 10 list to fifth with his performance of 53.21 meters, a personal best. Montgomery's mark came to 47.76 meters.
- Josiah Montgomery was not done yet. Montgomery, along with Emeka Ugwu and Ryan Cook competed in the shot put competition. Ugwu was the top finisher for the Panthers, finishing second with his personal best 18.65 meters. Ugwu is now second in the program's record book, behind only Justin Clickett's school record mark of 18.71 meters set in 2005. Montgomery earned his second third place performance of the afternoon with a personal best of his own, 17.71 meters. Montgomery moved from ninth on the top 10 list to now fourth. Cook's mark of 15.49 meters earned fourth overall.
- On the women's side, Niya Crawford claimed the crown with a huge personal best in the shot put, 16.54 meters. Crawford's throw was nearly three meters further than the second-place mark. She sits in third on the program's top 10 list with her powerful performance. Alexa Brown's mark of 13.42 meters led to third place.
- The meet moved to the track where Elizabeth Szybalski and Ava Lane competed in the 3000 meters steeplechase. Szybalski's personal best of 11:00.00 was the fastest at the meet. Lane crossed the finish line in 11:21.06 for third.
- Pitt also took first in the men's 3000 meters steeplechase, led by Ethan Feinstein. Feinstein stopped the clock in 9:18.95. Cole Casadei earned fourth with his 9:28.08 speed.
- Sienna Miller stepped on the track for the 1500 meters race, recording a time of 4:37.96 to lead all competitors. Brielle Whitworth grabbed the bronze medal with her pace of 4:42.88. Sophie Mullins had a seventh-place time of 4:46.23.
- In the men's 1500 meters heats, Jacob Abraham placed third in 3:58.10.
- Nick Steinfeldt closed out the first day of action with his fifth place pace of 14:46.25 in the 5000 meters.
SATURDAY RECAP
- The women's 4x100 relay team of Faith Dennis, Somiyah Braggs, Endeyah Lane and Alma Evuna Eki set a Carnegie Mellon Gesling Stadium record with their time of 45.87.
- The men's 4x100 relay quartet of Darren McQueen Jr., Che Nwabuko, Jaden Shelton and James Long won the men's section in 41.32.
- Niya Crawford continued her winning ways, collecting her second victory of the weekend, this time in the discus. Crawford launched a personal best 48.27 meters throw to jump from sixth to fourth on the program's top 10 list.
- Teammate Margaret Bila, with her 47.57 meters mark earned third at the meet and earned a spot on the program's all-time top 10 list, right below Crawford in fifth.
- Madisyn Hawkins (46.27 meters) and Jaydon Isham (44.54 meters) followed in fourth and fifth places in the discus competition.
- Pitt claimed first and second in both the men's 110 meters hurdles and the women's 100 meters hurdles. Jaden Shelton (13.84) and Antwan James (14.40) were the top two on the men's side while Maliah Edwards (13.65) and Jana Bruses (13.87) were the top two in the women's race.
- Maddie Lewis finished in fifth place in the women's long jump, leaping 5.17 meters.
- Alexandria Scott and Elizabeth Hunkele finished in fifth and sixth places, respectively in the 800 meters. Scott stopped the clock in 2:17.96 while Hunkele crossed the line in 2:18.34.
- Freshman Josiah Montgomery threw a personal best 44.82 meters in the discus throw to claim sixth.
- Freshman Camille Johnson took seventh in the women's triple jump with a 10.45 meters mark.
- After taking second in the women's 100 meters hurdles, Jana Bruses once again took second place, this time in the 400 meters race. Bruses' clocked a time of 56.84.
- Ava Pultorak also competed in the 400 meters, finishing sixth in 1:00.29.
- On the men's side, Colin Kravitz delivered a fourth-place performance in 48.56.
- James Long recorded a personal best 10.87 in the 100 meters dash to take second overall.
- Corey Greenfield just missed finishing in the top three of the men's 400 meters hurdles, as he was awarded fourth with his pace of 55.60.
- Hailey Kravetz garnered second place in the 200 meters dash with a 25.74 time while Maddie Lewis moved into fourth place with her speed of 26.22.

The Panthers go to the Sunshine State for Florida Relays April 3 and 4.
