PITTSBURGH – Women's swimming's Claire Jansen, baseball's Vincent Spizzoucco and men's swimming's Julian Koch have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week following standout performances last week.
Jansen made the A-final in both the 100 and 200 backstroke at the 2026 ACC Championships. In the 100 back, she finished fourth with a time of 50.32, setting a new program record. In the 200 back, she touched third in 1:49.99 — a program record and the first ACC Championships medal in Pitt women's swimming in almost a decade. Spizzoucco allowed just two base runners over seven shutout innings in Pitt's dominant 14-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday. The graduate student from Southington, CT struck out six batters in one of the best outings of his career. Spizzoucco only faced two batters over the minimum through his seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk all afternoon. The left-hander earned his first win of the season and lowered his ERA to 1.80 with his performance.
Koch was involved in 10 of the 19 program records Pitt set at the 2026 ACC Championships, contributing across individual events and all five relay records. In the 50 freestyle, he swam 18.87, breaking the five-year-old program record of 19.03 and becoming the first Panther to break 19 seconds in the event. In the 100 butterfly, he finished third in the A final with a time of 44.56, earning a program record and a bronze medal. He also broke records in the 100 free with a time of 41.00 as the leadoff split of the 400 free relay and also a record in the 200 free as the leadoff in the 800 free relay.
