NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – For the second consecutive week, Pitt lacrosse has earned national recognition by the IWLCA. After a dominant performance in two games, Lainey McGonagle has been named the Defensive Player of the Week.
McGonagle recorded five ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in the two games: the first an overtime loss to No. 23 Penn State and the second a 10-8 win over Virginia Tech. Her six caused turnovers against Penn State tied a single-game program record. McGonagle's 3.0 CT per game ranks second in the ACC and is top-15 in the country. The Panther defense as a whole is 12th in the nation in caused turnovers per game, largely due to McGonagle's efforts.
Through only four games, the defender from Wayne, PA is already closing in on the top ten of the Pitt record books.
Next up for McGonagle and the Panthers is a road trip to South Bend, Indiana. Pitt will take on No. 8 Notre Dame Saturday at 12 p.m.
