Panthers Welcome Spartans for First Home Series

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers host UNC Greensboro this weekend in their first home series of the season.
The Panthers took two out of three from the Spartans in their series last year in Greensboro. This will be the Spartans first trip to Pittsburgh.
Pitt kicked off their six-game homestand with an 18-3 run-rule victory over Bucknell on Wednesday. The 18 runs were their most in a game this season.
Top of the Order
• Pitt leadoff man AJ Nessler is hitting .480 and slugging .840 with 21 total bases, 12 hits, 14 runs scored, six RBIs and two home runs so far this season. He's recorded a hit in six of Pitt's seven games.
• Joey Baran hit a grand slam and drove in six runs against Bucknell. He is batting .389 with nine RBIs, seven hits, two home runs and one double.
• Pitt left-handed pitcher Vincent Spizzoucco struck out six and allowed just two baserunners over seven shutout innings in Pitt's dominant 14-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield last Saturday.
• Pitt has worked 66 walks over the first two weeks of the season, ranking them fourth in the ACC and ninth nationally.
• The Panthers are coming off of a 2-1 weekend at the Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi, TX last week.
• Pitt is one of four teams in the country to hit six home runs in a game this season.
• Pitt relievers LHP Mikey Gray and RHP Daniel McAuliff were named to the Stopper of the Year Preseason Watchlist by the NCBWA. The award is given annually to the country's best relief pitcher.
• The Panthers welcomed 21 newcomers to campus for the 2026 season - among them are 16 transfers and five freshmen.
• Head Coach Mike Bell and the Panthers ushered in a new coaching staff in 2026, hiring Luke Bonfield, Sky Duff and Clay Martin.
