Carla Viegas Posts Career Night Against Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Pitt closed out its final road contest of the regular season with a 79-58 loss to Miami Thursday night at the Watsco Center.
Junior guard Carla Viegas led Pitt offensively, pouring in a career-high 27 points behind an 8-for-16 effort from three-point range. Viegas' eight made three-pointers is a career-high and the most makes by a Panther in a single game in program history. The Malaga, Spain native finished 9-of-18 from the field overall.
Freshman Theresa Hagans Jr. added 15 points and three assists, while Fatima Diakhate recorded a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with eight points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Miami set the tone early and never trailed, jumping out to a 17-11 lead after the opening quarter. The Hurricanes stretched their advantage to 33-21 at the half behind strong interior play from Ra Shaya Kyle, who finished with a double-double, scoring 36 points on 14-of-18 shooting along with 13 rebounds.
The Panthers showed fight in the third, but Miami shot 66.7 percent from the field in the period to extend its lead. Viegas kept Pitt afloat offensively, draining back-to-back threes in the fourth quarter to fuel a 9-0 Pitt run that briefly cut the deficit to 17, but Miami held firm to seal the win as the Hurricanes controlled the paint throughout the contest, outscoring Pitt 50-20 inside and winning the rebounding battle, 47-26.
