No.12 Pitt Drops Tight Dual to No.9 NC State

PITTSBURGH - No.12 Pitt dropped a tightly contested dual to No.9 NC State, 18-13, Friday evening inside Fitzgerald Field House, battling back with three wins in the final four bouts to make it close down the stretch.
No. 17 Dylan Evans put Pitt on the board, earning a 12-2 major decision over Luca Felix in the 157 matchup. Evans recorded three takedowns and added an escape point while capitalizing on multiple stall warnings to give the Panthers their first team points and cut the deficit to 12-4.
The Panthers began their late push at 174 pounds, where No. 18 Luca Augustine secured a 7-2 decision over No. 6 Matty Singleton. After a scoreless opening frame, Augustine took the lead with an escape and a violation on NC State. Singleton came back in the third period with an escape and the riding time point to force overtime. Augustine delivered a takedown and near-fall in the extra session to pull Pitt within 15-7.
Pitt kept the momentum rolling at 184 as No. 28 Chase Kranitz posted a 7-2 decision over Don Cates. Kranitz opened with a first-period takedown and added another in the second to continue chipping away at the deficit.
At 197, No. 8 Mac Stout brought the Panthers within striking distance with an 8-2 decision over No. 24 Patrick Brophy. Stout scored a takedown in the first period and sealed the match with another in the third, trimming the team score to 15-13 heading into the final bout.
In the heavyweight finale, No. 15 Dayton Pitzer faced No. 2 Isaac Trumble. After a scoreless first period, Trumble added a late takedown in the final period to secure the win for NC State.
