Panthers Lose Game Two to Cardinals

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Pitt Panthers (18-7, 4-4 ACC) fell in game two of their series at Louisville (17-10, 4-4 ACC), 8-5, on Saturday afternoon.
Pitt threatened in the top of the ninth inning and had the bases loaded with two outs but were unable to bring a run home.
The Panthers recorded double-digit hits for the third time this week. Lorenzo Carrier, Caden Dulin, Joey Baran and Kai Wagner all had multiple-hit games on Saturday for Pitt. Lorenzo Carrier went 2-4 with his twelfth home run of the season. Sebastian Pisacreta tied his single-season career-high home run total with his three-run shot in the third inning. Caden Dulin finished the day 2-5 with an RBI double.
Sam Bryan threw 1.1 scoreless in relief for the Panthers. True freshman Brandon Reiter got two outs and did not allow a run in the bottom of the eighth inning while Joey Ciancimino struck out two in his two innings in relief.
Louisville scored first on Saturday with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning.
Trey Fenderson and Kai Wagner strung together two-out singles in the top of the third which put runners at first and second for Sebastian Pisacreta who launched a three-run home run to tie the game.
Louisville got a run back on a solo home run in the bottom half of the third, but the Panthers responded with a run of their own to knot the game at four. Derrick Tarpley Jr. walked and advanced to second on a wild pitcher before being driven in by a Caden Dulin RBI double to left center.
The Cardinals regained their lead again with another three-run inning in the bottom of the fourth inning. They led 7-4 through the first four innings.
Lorenzo Carrier hit his twelfth home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning to cut Pitt's deficit to two. Louisville extended their lead back to three with a run in the bottom half of the inning making it an 8-5 ballgame after six frames.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Panthers loaded the bases with two outs but were ultimately unable to bring a run home.
Pitt and Louisville's rubber match is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM. Right-hander Drew Lafferty will get the start on the mound for the Panthers.
