PITTSBURGH – Pitt shortstop Caden Dulin was named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award, the College Baseball Foundation announced this morning.
The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding shortstop. It is named in honor of former Texas Tech shortstop, Brooks Wallace, who passed away at the age of 27 after a battle with leukemia. Prior to 2009, the award honored the national player of the year.
In 37 games this season, Dulin is batting .369 with 95 total bases, 47 runs scored, 37 RBI, 10 home runs, 10 doubles and a 1.091 OPS. The senior from Williamstown, NJ leads the team in hits with 55 and is currently riding a 19-game hitting streak.
Dulin and the Panthers are coming off of a 23-1 victory over No. 12 West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl on Tuesday. He eclipsed the double-digit home run mark for the first time in his career with his three-run shot in the third inning.
The College Baseball Foundation presents the Brooks Wallace Award (Nation's Most Outstanding Shortstop), the National Pitcher of the Year Award, the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, the Skip Bertman Coach of the Year Award, the George H.W. Bush Distinguished Alumnus Award, and the Wayne Graham Award for Teaching Excellence.
