Panthers Fall to Golden Flashes

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Baseball (28-15, 10-11 ACC) team fell on Wednesday night to Kent State (32-11, 17-7 MAC), 13-5.
The Panthers generated offense in the later innings but were unable to overcome their early deficit.
AJ Nessler recorded his 18th multiple-hit game of the year and drove in two runs on a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Kai Wagner drove in a pair of runs on two extra-base hits as he finished his day 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and a walk. Lorenzo Carrier had a double and run scored on Wednesday.
The Golden Flashes scored two runs in the top of the first, but Pitt responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 2-1 ballgame. After lacing a double to left, Lorenzo Carrier scored on Kai Wagner's RBI triple down the right field line.
Kent State scored a run in the top of the third inning and led 3-1 through three innings before adding runs in each of the next three innings to take a 7-1 lead in the sixth.
Kai Wagner delivered again for the Panthers with another RBI extra-base hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. He ripped a double down the first base line, driving in Dulin from third. Pitt still trailed 7-2 through six.
AJ Nessler hit his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run blast to right field.
Kent State plated four more runs in the top of the eighth, extending their lead to nine.
Pitt got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a pinch-hit walk by Jackson Cooke after loading the bases. They fell 13-5 to the Golden Flashes on Wednesday night.
