TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Pitt Panthers (28-17, 10-13 ACC) fell in both games of their doubleheader at No. 14 ranked Florida State (32-14, 14-9 ACC) on Saturday afternoon.
After inclement weather postponed Friday night's contest, the Panthers and Seminoles played a doubleheader in Tallahassee on Saturday.
Caden Dulin hit a home run and combined for four hits in the doubleheader. He collected his fifth three-hit game of the season in game two. AJ Nessler recorded three hits and scored one run on the afternoon.
Lorenzo Carrier hit two home runs and drove in four runs between the two games. Carrier's 18 home runs this year are tied for fifth all-time in a single season at Pitt.
Game One
Lorenzo Carrier drove in the Panthers' lone run in game one on a solo home run in the second inning.
AJ Nessler went 2-for-4 with two singles, recording his 19th multiple-hit game of the year. Caden Dulin and Kai Wagner accounted for Pitt's other two hits.
Aside from two big innings for the Seminoles, the Panther pitching staff kept Florida State off the board. Through his first five innings, starter Antonio Doganiero struck out four batters while allowing just one earned run. Daniel McAuliff surrendered three hits and an earned run in his 2.2 innings in relief.
With their six-run bottom of the sixth inning, the Seminoles went on to take the series-opener, 10-1.
Game Two
Florida State scored runs in each of the first two innings to take an early 5-0 lead in game two.
Pitt responded with a four-run top of the third inning as they cut their deficit to one.
Carter Dierdorf led off the scoring with his tenth home run of the season on a solo shot to right center. After AJ Nessler and Caden Dulin both reached on singles, Lorenzo Carrier slugged his second home run of the afternoon over the wall in right. Carrier's three-run home run was his 18th of the year, putting him fifth all-time in single-season home runs in program history. The Panthers trailed 5-4 through four innings.
The Seminoles plated two runs in the fifth inning and added one more in the seven to extend their lead to four, making it an 8-4 ballgame after seven.
Caden Dulin hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning but Pitt went on to lose game two, 8-5.
The series finale is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1 PM. Pitt's Drew Lafferty will make his team-leading twelfth start of the year.
