PITTSBURGH – Pitt (30-23, 11-19 ACC) lost the regular season finale to Notre Dame (30-21, 13-17 ACC) on Saturday afternoon, 21-10, in seven innings.
Lorenzo Carrier had his third multiple-home run of the season, hitting his nineteenth and twentieth home runs of the year. He is just the third Panther in program history to hit twenty or more home runs in a single season. Carrier is two home runs shy of tying the single-season program record. He went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in his final game at Charles L. Cost Field.
Anthony LaSala started at shortstop for the second-consecutive day and drove in a pair of runs in his 2-for-3 day at the plate. Joey Baran went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored as he hit his second home run in as many days. Carter Dierdorf worked a walk and is now two shy of breaking the single-season program record.
Notre Dame struck first with four runs in the first inning, and three runs in the second, to take an early seven-run lead.
The Panthers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third inning. After Mason Ligenza worked a walk to lead off the frame, Anthony LaSala lined a double down the left field line which put both of them in scoring position. AJ Nessler drove in Ligenza on a sacrifice fly to centerfield and Pitt trailed 7-1 through three innings.
The Fighting Irish added four runs in the fourth, but the Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs of their own off the bats of Joey Baran and Anthony LaSala. Baran slugged his second home run of the weekend with a two-run shot to right. LaSala came up again with Ligenza on first after working a walk and lined an RBI single to center.
Lorenzo Carrier slugged his nineteenth home run of the season on a 457-foot blast over the scoreboard in left field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Notre Dame plated nine runs in the sixth to take a 21-5 lead.
The Panthers strung together three singles to load the bases in the bottom half of the inning. Anthony LaSala drove in his second run of the game on an RBI fielder's choice. Sebastian Pisacreta scored on the play and Joey Baran came home all the way from second on the shortstop's errant throw to first. LaSala moved to third on a wild pitch and was driven in on AJ Nessler's RBI groundout.
Lorenzo Carrier capped off the inning with his second home run of the game and twentieth of the season, becoming just the third Panther in program history to do so.
Pitt fell in the regular season finale to Notre Dame, 21-10 in seven innings.
The Panthers will head to Charlotte, NC for the 2026 ACC Baseball Championship next week. Seeding for the tournament will be released later tonight.
