PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh Department of Athletics continued its tradition of academic excellence in the classroom, posting a department-wide score of 984 in the NCAA's 2024-25 Academic Progress Rate (APR) report released by the NCAA today.
Nine Panther programs registered a perfect single-year score of 1,000 for the 2024-25 academic year: men's basketball, men's soccer, men's swimming & diving, wrestling, women's cross country, women's gymnastics, women's soccer, women's track & field and women's volleyball.
Two programs — women's cross country and women's volleyball — recorded perfect multi-year APR scores of 1,000, the gold standard of the NCAA's academic measurement system. Both rates reflect a four-year rolling cohort covering the 2021-22 through 2024-25 academic years.
In addition to the perfect multi-year marks, six other Pitt programs posted multi-year scores of 990 or better: women's swimming & diving (997), men's soccer (996), men's swimming & diving (996), women's gymnastics (995), women's lacrosse (993) and women's soccer (991).
The APR is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention and graduation for student-athletes, awarding teams up to two points per scholarship student-athlete each academic term. A team's score is calculated as the total points earned divided by points possible, multiplied by 1,000. Teams must achieve a multi-year APR of at least 930 to be eligible for postseason competition.
All 17 of Pitt's NCAA-sponsored programs included in the report exceeded the 930 benchmark.
