Panthers Set to Host Bucknell Monday
8/23/2026 11:28:00 AM | Men's Soccer
PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's soccer team returns to action Monday, Aug. 24, hosting Bucknell at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with live coverage available on ACCNX with Kevin Wheeler and David Day on the call.
OPENING KICK
- Monday's match marks the 33rd all-time meeting between Pitt and Bucknell, though it's the first time the two Pennsylvania programs have met in more than 20 years. Bucknell holds a 22-10 edge in the series, with Pitt's last win coming in 2003, a 3-2 decision.
- Pitt opened the season with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to then-No. 7 Maryland on Thursday, controlling possession and outshooting the Terps 14-6 despite the result. Freshman Mamadou Tall scored his first collegiate goal in the second half to cut the deficit to one.
- Bucknell also enters off an opening night loss, falling 2-1 to No. 20 Hofstra. Freshman Chayse Snyder tied that match with his first career goal in the 80th minute, but Hofstra answered just 50 seconds later for the win.
SCOUTING THE BISON
- Bucknell comes in at 0-1-0 to begin the year, dropping a tight decision to a ranked Hofstra side in their opener.
- Freshman Chayse Snyder was a bright spot in that game, netting his first career goal to level the score before Hofstra's late answer.
- This will be Jay Vidovich's first ever matchup against Bucknell as Pitt's head coach.
MAMADOU DEBUT
- Pitt's freshman striker Mamadou Tall tallied his first collegiate goal against top-10 Maryland on Thursday night to cut the Terp lead to one.
- Tall made his first career start at center forward, providing a threatening spark up top for the Panthers' attack.
- Tall led all players in the Maryland match with five shots, including two on target, despite playing just 60 minutes.
STAFF & PROGRAM NOTES
- Vidovich added two new assistants over the offseason in Robby Dambrot and Will Marshall, giving him a full staff of Pitt alumni alongside holdover Bryce Cregan.
- Pitt was picked 11th in the preseason ACC poll, and defender Niklas Sørensen was named to the ACC Preseason Player to Watch List.
- Sørensen and Caden Grabfelder both landed on TopDrawerSoccer's Preseason Top 100 List, checking in at No. 71 and No. 79, respectively.
- The roster carries an international flavor with players representing Spain, Switzerland, Norway, England, Senegal and Colombia, while three players have direct ties to the Pittsburgh area: Alex Hauskrecht (Pittsburgh), Carter Kopay (Moon Township) and Anders Bordoy (New Kensington).
PITT TO THE PROS
- Two players on the current roster have already heard their names called in the MLS SuperDraft: Grabfelder went 50th overall to CF Montreal in 2025, and Sørensen went 48th overall to Real Salt Lake.
- 2025 graduate Jackson Gilman was drafted by Toronto FC and has since been called up to the first team, starting eight straight games.
- 2025 marked the sixth consecutive year a Panther has been selected in the MLS SuperDraft under Vidovich.
