UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Pitt men's soccer earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Penn State on Friday night at Jeffrey Field for their second-straight win on the season.
Caden Grabfelder put the Panthers on the board in the 33rd minute, converting a penalty kick for his first goal of the season against his former team. The penalty was awarded after Cannon Scretchen was taken down in the box while driving up the left flank. Penn State responded five minutes later, as Amadou Kone knotted the score at 1-1 in the 38th minute to even the match headed into the break.
Pitt reclaimed the lead in the 54th minute on a goal from Anders Bordoy, who drove up the left side and unleashed a shot from outside the box that deflected off a Nittany Lions defender and past the goalkeeper. The goal, his first of the season, proved to be the difference. The Panther defense limited Penn State to just one shot in the second half.
Jack Moxom made two saves in the net to preserve the win. Pitt controlled possession for 63 percent of the match and held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, despite being outshot 7-5 by the Nittany Lions.
