Head coach Tory Verdi announced the addition of assistant coach Devan Newman to the Pitt women's basketball coaching staff on July 8, 2024.
Newman brings 15+ years of NCAA Division I coaching experience, highlighted by a four year stint at Louisville where she served in a variety of capacities.
Newman arrives from Binghamton where she served as the associate head coach since 2021 and previously as an assistant coach from 2018-21.
During the 2019-20 campaign, Newman helped the Bearcats record the best start (9-0) and the most wins in school history. Additionally, during each of her six seasons, she helped produce multiple all-conference honorees.
Prior to her stint at Binghamton, Newman served as an assistant coach at Weber State from 2011-18. Notably, during the 2015-16 season, the Wildcats won a school record 23 games and reached the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) championship game.
Newman began her career as a graduate assistant at Louisville, before being promoted to assistant director of operations/special assistant to the head coach. She earned her bachelor's degree in sport administration from Oregon in 2007, before earning her master's degree in sport administration from Louisville in 2009.
