Banfield will serve as the Panthers[apos] volunteer assistant coach for 2013. She comes to Pitt from Rutgers, where she was a four-year competitor for the Scarlet Knights. The 2011 graduate with a degree in psychology and a minor in sociology is currently enrolled in Pitt[apos]s School of Social Work, pursuing a master[apos]s in social work.
At Rutgers, Banfield recorded a career-high 9.9 on the floor on Feb. 28, 2010 and a career-high 9.825 on vault on March 19, 2011. She was a member of the EAGL All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2011 and received the 2011 Scarlet Knight Leadership Award. In 2011, Banfield was named to the All-Tournament Second Team.
Additionally, Banfield has worked two summers at Woodward West Gymnastics Camp in Tehachapi, Calif., and also worked at ENA-Paramus in Paramus, N.J., as a compulsory and optional coach.
The Newbury Park, Calif., native is a graduate of Newbury Park High School and competed for Platinum Gymnastics in Simi Valley, Calif.
