Tyler Sexton Joined the University of Pittsburgh athletics department in August of 2022 as a Marketing Coordinator. While serving as marketing coordinator, he oversees the marketing efforts of the men’s soccer, wrestling, swim & dive, and lacrosse teams at Pitt. In 2023, Sexton took over the marketing efforts for the Jr. Panthers Kids Club.
Prior to working at Pitt, Sexton served as a marketing assistant in the Liberty University athletics department where he over saw the marketing efforts for men’s soccer and the student flames club, was second marketing oversight for baseball, and assisted in the marketing efforts for football and men’s and women’s basketball.
A 2019 graduate of Old Dominion University with a bachelor’s degree in sports management, Sexton worked in the event management and facilities coordinator, assisting in gameday operations for all of Old Dominions athletic teams. He continued his education at Old Dominion, graduating with his master’s degree in sport management in 2021.
A Newport News, Virginia, native, Tyler resides in Greentree.
Beyond the Bio
Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
I have two that stand out to me, the first being the Backyard Brawl football game against West Virginia in 2022. It was my first event to work since taking the job at Pitt and for it to be a record crowd, a Pitt victory, and a well-run event made it stand out for sure!
The second is hosting the Elite 8 match in the 2023 Men’s Soccer Tournament. Setting the attendance record for men’s soccer is a great accomplishment to be a part of! Calling the game that saw Pitt win in overtime to advance to the College Cup made it a top moment that will be hard to beat.
What do you love most about working in athletics?
For someone working in marketing, being able to pack the stands for the various sports that I oversee is a great feeling. Being able to create, sustain, and be a part of an incredible atmosphere at these games is why I love what I call work.
