PITTSBURGH (AP) - Kevin Price scored 19 points and Nick Bosnic added 15 as Duquesne beat undermanned Pittsburgh 80-69 on Thursday, ending an eight-game losing streak in the series between the intra-city rivals.
The Dukes (10-12) beat Pittsburgh for the first time since Dec. 19, 1988 and won for just the fourth time in the last 23 games of the series.
Because of injuries, the Panthers (7-11) dressed just seven scholarship players for the game and lost their sixth consecutive game this season.
Duquesne led by 13 at halftime, then didn't score a field goal in the first five minutes of the second half. The Panthers scored the first six points of the second half before Courtney Wallace hit a 3-pointer for the Dukes, the only shot of Duquesne's first eight to go in.
Pittsburgh's Jarrett Lockhart made a 3-pointer with 2:02 left to trim the Dukes' lead to five points at 69-64. Duquesne beat the Panthers' defensive pressure to set up a dunk by Kevin Shand and the Dukes outscored Pittsburgh 9-3 in the final two minutes.
Dukes guard Mike James, who averages 19 points per game scored only 11 with one of his poorest shooting nights of the season. James made just 5-of-17 shots and one 3-pointer in nine tries. Wallace had 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Lockhart led the Panthers with 19 points and Vonteego Cummings had 18 as he also shot poorly. Cummings was 5-of-17. Isaac Hawkins scored 16 points.
With 10 wins, Duquesne coach Scott Edgar has reached double figures in victories for the first time in his three years at the school.
