PITTSBURGH - University of Pittsburgh head men's basketball coach Ralph Willard has announced the signing of Jeremy Holmes, a top junior college point guard, to a national letter-of-intent to play for the Panthers this year.
Holmes averaged 10.2 points and 7.5 assists while leading Neosho County (Ks.) Junior College to a 27-5 record, the best in school history, this past year. He finished his career holding school records for assists in a game (15), season (262) and career (502). An All-Jayhawk Conference selection, Holmes led the league in assists each of the last two seasons.
Holmes also excelled academically and was a member of Neosho's Phi Theta Kappa honor society, while majoring in business. He is a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School.
"Jeremy is an outstanding young man who brings an exciting ability to distribute the basketball," said Willard. "He can excel in both an up-tempo and half-court offense and should be excellent in our pressing-running system."
Holmes is the third recruit Pittsburgh has signed this year. During the NCAA's early- signing period, the Panthers received commitments from 6-3, 190-pound guard Fred Primus (Washington, D.C./Notre Dame Academy [Va.]) and 6-9, 220-pound forward Chris Seabrooks (Macon, Ga./Winchendon [Mass.] School).
