PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ricardo Greer had 18 points and 11 rebounds as Pittsburgh beat New Orleans 62-46 Saturday night.
Pittsburgh (8-3) was ahead 33-21 at halftime, and led by as many as 17 before New Orleans (6-6) began whittling the lead. The Privateers closed to within five points, trailing 50-45 with 5:46 remaining, after an eight-point run.
Greer was fouled while scoring from the paint, however, and completed the 3-point play with a free throw as Pittsburgh began a 12-1 run to end the game.
Pittsburgh struggled early as redshirt freshman Jaron Brown started at point guard in place of Brandin Knight, who was coming off a one-game suspension for disciplinary reasons. The score was tied 9-9 when Knight entered the game.
Knight had 12 points and 3 assists in 26 minutes. Donatas Zavackas had 11 points in his second straight start.
The Panthers had 42 rebounds to just 22 for New Orleans.
Although New Orleans was whistled for just 19 fouls, Curtis Wilson, Tory Walker and Clyde Ellis all fouled out. Nobody fouled out for the Panthers who committed just 15 fouls.
Nobody scored in double figures for New Orleans who were led by Rickie Marlowe's 9 points.
