Chantee Earl Automatically Qualifies For NCAA Outdoor Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Pittsburgh women's track and field senior Chantee Earl (Hampton, Va./Hampton Christian) ran 2:04.49 to set an outdoor school record and automatically qualify for the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Earl, the reigning NCAA indoor champion in the 800 meters, accomplished the feat at the University of Tennessee Sea Ray Relays and was the only collegian to place among the top five, finishing second.
Earl, a five time All-American, additionally help set a school and meet record in the sprint medley relay along with Tasha Peart (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Mannings), Mera Belisle (Georgetown, Guyana/Bishop's) and Tia Tabb (Newport News, Va./Menchville). The quartet ran 3:45.27, bettering the previous meet best time of 3:47.25 set by Alabama in 1993 and the school time of 3:52.60 set in 1991. Earl now owns, or is a part of, 12 school records (five individual and seven relays).
Peart additionally turned in the team's top performance of the season in the 100 meters, running 11.88 to qualify for the ECAC Championships.
The Panthers return to action April 26-29 in Philadelphia, Pa., at the annual Penn Relays. The Big East Championship will be May 6-7 at Rutgers with the IC4A/ECAC Championships taking place May 19-21 at Princeton.
