Women's Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision to Villanova

PITTSBURGH-With a chance to gain a berth in the Big East postseason tournament, the women's soccer team lost, 4-0, at Villanova on Fri., Oct. 5. The Wildcats scored three second-half goals to break open the game.
The game began as a defensive struggle until Villanova scored with just 11:19 left in the first half. Junior Quinn Sellers lobbed a pass to Jennifer Carrigan inside the box. Carrigan sent the ball across to Jessica Painchaud who put the ball past Panther goalkeeper Rachel Brown (Burnley, England/St. Christopher's/Alabama).
The Panthers were even with the Wildcats in first-half shots with five apiece. The shot advantage in the second half went to Villanova by a 13-7 margin. Three more goals by Erica Stewart, Julie Battista and Alison Bimba provided the final 4-0 score, Pittsburgh's second loss in four Mid-Atlantic contests.
Brown made five saves in the loss and the Panthers forced Villanova goalkeeper Janel Schillig to make nine stops.
Lauren Sciocchetti (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and Melissa Smith (Lakewood, Colo./Bear Creek) led the Panthers with three shots apiece. The Panthers continue a four-game road trip with a trip to Rutgers to face the Scarlet Knights on Sun., Oct. 7.
