PITTSBURGH-The Pittsburgh women's soccer team allowed three second-half goals after playing a scoreless first half with Rutgers and lost, 3-0, on Sun., Oct. 7.
The Panthers and Scarlet Knights were deadlocked at 0-0 for the first 49 minutes of the game until Carli Lloyd scored her ninth goal of the year for Rutgers at the 49:04 mark on an assist by Keri Lages.
Rutgers added goals in the 68th and 83rd minutes to account for the final 3-0 score. Adrienne Dugandzic scored with 22:25 left in the game and Lages tallied with just 7:36 remaining past Panther goalkeeper Rachel Brown (Burnley, England/St. Christopher's/Alabama). Brown made six saves in the loss compared to Rutgers' Christine Caldwell, who posted the shutout with nine saves.
Cande Ruiz-Bradbury (Oxnard, Calif./Santa Clara) and Kimberly Sturk (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led the Panthers with four shots apiece. As a team, the Panthers were outshot 20-15.
The loss gives the Panthers a 4-5-1 overall record and a 2-3 mark in Big East Mid-Atlantic Division play. Pittsburgh is currently fifth in the Mid-Atlantic standings and would have to defeat West Virginia on Wednesday and have Rutgers defeat Villanova to make the conference's postseason tournament.
