PITTSBURGH? No. 4/5 Pittsburgh improved to 4-0 with a 96-51 men?s basketball victory Tuesday against Norfolk State at the brand-new Petersen Events Center. Pittsburgh begins a season at 4-0 for the fifth consecutive season. Norfolk State drops to 1-2 overall.
Pittsburgh took control early in the first half as it converted on eight three-pointers and limited Norfolk State to 15 first half points. The Panthers led by 39 points at halftime (54-15) while outrebounding the visiting Spartans 22-10. Seventeen of Pittsburgh?s 21 first half field goals came on assists while the Panthers shot 63.6 percent (8-14) from the three-point line.
Four Panthers scored in double figures including Julius Page (16 points), Chevon Troutman (14), Ontario Lett (13 points) and Donatas Zavackas (13). Lett finished with nine rebounds while Zavackas pulled down eight. Brandin Knight also finished with nine points (3-6 3FG), Jaron Brown (9 points) and Yuri Demetris contributed a career-high eight points.
Pittsburgh is next in action on Dec. 7 at Penn State. Tipoff for the Fox Sports Net televised game is 1 p.m.
