Women's Soccer Signs Two For 2002 Season

PITTSBURGH-University of Pittsburgh head women's soccer coach Roland Sturk has announced the signing of both forward/midfielder Erin Hills and defender Erin McFarling to a national letter-of-intent to play for the 2002 season.
A native of Fairfax, Va., Hills was a member of the 1999 Regional Championship team at James W. Robinson Secondary. She finished her high school career with 22 goals and 21 assists to lead her team to a 46-10-1 record.
Hills was selected as an all-district honoree for the past three seasons. She has particpated in club soccer for SYC Azzurri since 1994 and led the team to a Division I Championship and the Virginian Championship. Hills was also a member of the 2000 and 2001 BRYC 200V championship teams and of the Chantilly Hurricanes.
McFarling, a native of Atlanta, Ga., was a four-year starter at The Paideia School, the same school as men's soccer goalkeeper Justin Lowery, where she helped lead the team to consecutive A/AA state championships during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. She was also named the team's best defender in 2001, best midfielder in 2000, and selected to the second state team in 2001.
McFarling has competed in various tournaments, such as the Surf Cup, Orange Classic, Raleigh Shootout, WAGS, and Potomac Memorial Day weekend. Additionally, she served as a member of the 2002 Tophat Gold club team and was named team captain.
The Panthers will kick off their seventh season on August 30 when they travel to Loretto, Pa., to take on the Red Flash of St. Francis.
