No. 20 Men's Basketball Defeats Youngstown State 57-42

PITTSBURGH--Julius Page and Chevon Troutman each scored 14 points to lead No. 20 Pittsburgh to a 57-42 win over Youngstown State at the Peterson Events Center. Jaron Brown added 10 points for Pittsburgh (7-0), which won its 27th consecutive home game.
The Panthers entered the game only allowing 45.3 points per game in the last three contests and held the Penguins under that average.
Youngstown State (2-5) was led by Aaron Baumann, as he scored a game-high 16 points. The Penguins dropped their fifth game on the road this season. Both teams suffered through poor shooting performances in the first half, as the Panthers built a 25-16 halftime lead. Pittsburgh only managed to make 1-of-7 from behind the arc for 14-percent.
The Panthers also struggled at the foul line by only making 4-of-7 for 57-percent. Troutman and Page each scored six to lead the Panthers. The Panthers shot better in the second 20 minutes, as they shot 13-of-16 from the field and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Pittsburgh jumped out on a 6-0 run in the second half to give them a double-digit lead at 31-16. Youngstown State never seriously threatened again and did not cut the lead to single-digits the rest of the game.
Pittsburgh is back in action Monday night at the Petersen Events Center for the start of the Pittsburgh Holiday Hoops Tournament against Georgetown College (Ky.). Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES
*Pittsburgh tied its school record with its 27th consecutive home victory. Pittsburgh also won 27 consecutive home games from Dec. 10, 1973-Dec. 23, 1975. In addition, Pittsburgh is now 21-0 in the Petersen Events Center and 37-1 in home games over the last three seasons.
*Youngstown State lost its 34th consecutive road game.
*Pittsburgh has now won 18 of its last 19 games and 26 of its last 29 games.
*Pittsburgh held its third consecutive opponent to 45 points or less. The last time Pittsburgh held three consecutive opponents to 45 points or less was in 1949 when the Panthers defeated Westminster (50-40), West Virginia (34-32) and Connecticut (52-35).
*The win gave Pittsburgh a 7-0 start for the second consecutive season. In 2002-03, Pittsburgh began its season at 9-0.
*Pittsburgh also improved to 54-1 over the last five years when holding opponents to 60 points or less.
*Youngstown State went without a 3-point field goal for the first time in 147 games. The last time YSU did not connect on a 3-point field goal was on Nov. 20, 1998 vs. Slippery Rock.
*Youngstown State was held to its fewest points (42) since it scored just 42 points at Michigan on Dec. 4, 1975.
