PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Pitt women's soccer goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi was named to the All-Big East Second Team the league announced on Friday. The All-Big East team is voted upon by league coaches.
"Jamie is very deserving of this honor," Pitt women's soccer coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "It is a great award for Jamie and for the team. It's great for her to conclude her senior year by being recognized again in the Big East. It is a tribute to Jamie's work ethic, her dedication to the program and her commitment to self-improvement."
A two-time All-Big East recipient, Pelusi adds this accomplishment to her long list of career accolades at Pitt. Pelusi holds school records for career shutouts (14) and career saves (456). She has started all 71 consecutive games at goalkeeper, the most ever by a Pitt goalkeeper. Pelusi completed her career with a 1.75 goals against average. For the fourth consecutive season, Pelusi leads the Big East in saves per game (6.50). Pelusi has also excelled academically. She is a three-time Big East Academic All-Star and GTE Academic All-District selection.
In 2004, Pelusi became Pitt's third all-time recipient of the Big East Goalkeeper of the Year award and was also selected to the All-Big East First Team. During the 2004 season, she set or tied four career records: least goals allowed (50 goals in 34 games), career saves, career shutouts and tied the school record with five shutouts on the season.
Pelusi concluded her 2005 senior season leading the Big East in saves (117), an average of 6.50 per game. She started all 18 games played and recorded four shutouts. She is ranked second in the conference in save percentage (.824) and registered a season-high 14 saves against Georgetown on Oct. 14.
In 2003, she set a school record allowing only 23 goals on the season. Her freshman year Pelusi ranked tied for 13th nationally with a 7.32 saves per game average. She was the school's first freshman goalkeeper to start every game and was named Freshman Female Athlete of the Year by the Pitt News.
Pelusi is a 2002 graduate of nearby Hampton High School, where she earned All-WPIAL, All-PIAA and All-Region honors. She led the Talbots to the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs during her career.
Pitt advanced to the Big East Soccer Tournament for the first time since 1998 and concluded the season with a record of 4-11-3 overall and 3-6-2 in the Big East.
