PITTSBURGH--Pitt women's soccer head coach Sue-Moy Chin announced the hiring of Stefanie Golan Tuesday as an assistant coach. Golan will join Chin and assistant Monica Gerardo.
"I am pleased to announce the hiring of Stef Golan," said Chin. "I coached Stef during my stint at Duke and was immediately impressed by her knowledge of the game, work ethic and personality. We stayed in touch after I left Duke and Stef has grown into a great coach. She will compliment our staff tremendously. I couldn't be more pleased to have Stef join our Pitt family."
Golan comes to Pitt from the University of Evansville, where she served as its assistant women's soccer coach for two years from 2003-04. In 2005, her recruits led the Purple Aces to their first winning season since 2001. During that year, Evansville also recorded its best non-conference record in the history of the program. Her recruits received numerous honors, including the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year award, one First Team All-Conference selection, one Second Team All-Conference honor, two All-Freshman team honors and two MVC All-Tournament Team members.
Prior to her coaching tenure at Evansville, Golan was a graduate assistant at Mercer University in 2002. Her first recruiting class at Mercer helped lead the team to four more victories than the previous season.
Golan graduated from Duke in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. From 1997-2001, she started for the Blue Devils when not battling a chronic ankle injury. She was also named to the ACC All-Tournament Team in 2000.
A St. Louis, Mo. native, Golan resides in Pittsburgh's North Hills. As a player at the youth and amateur levels, Golan won multiple state, regional and national championships, while competing for Busch and JB Marine Soccer Clubs. Golan anchored a high school defense that won a state championship and finished with a 27-1-1 record. She is married to Dave Golan and the couple is expecting its first child in May.
Golan joins the Panther coaching staff of Chin and assistant Monica Gerardo. Chin guided Pitt into postseason play for the first time since 1998.
