POST-GAME QUOTES
December 17, 2005
Quoting Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon:
Opening Statement:
"I was happy though I thought today wasn't our best effort. Certainly you play better when you practice, but we'll face tougher adversity this year than finals. We fought hard throughout, it wasn't our best shooting night but we played well on defense and rebounded. Those are our keys to being successful."
On the play of Carl Krauser and Antonio Graves:
"I thought Carl was terrific sparking us on offense when we really needed the help. I also thought Antonio played a very balanced game both on offense and defense.
On Contesting Vermont's open 3-pointers:
"They shot 34% which I'm very satisfied with. They have four guards and they spaced the floor well. We concentrated on Mike Trimboli and held him to 1-for-7 from three point range. That was very impressive, since that was one of our goals coming in."
On what he said during the time-out when Pitt trailed 15-7:
"I thought we missed some open shots. I told the guys to keep fighting for good looks. I emphasized that if we rebounded better and continued to play hard defensively we could get back in the game."
On Pitt having and "On" switch:
"I think it's a grind. You can do everything right and the other team will still score a bucket. It's a matter of putting forth your best effort for 40 minutes, and if you do that throughout the game, there will come a point where your able to make a significant run."
On Stopping Mike Trimboli:
"Our scouting report said `as he goes, so goes the team.' It's something we focused on in our game-plan and as a result I think had a lot to do with what we were able to do defensively and in the game as a whole."
Quoting Pitt's Carl Krauser:
On being rusty after finals week:
"We came out to a slow start, I thought we rushed some shots and didn't talk on D. Especially in the beginning they were moving the ball well and making sure they got good shots. One we got into the flow of the game we were able to correct the problems and start playing better.
On moving up Pitt's all-time scoring list:
"It's a blessing any time you can come to a University like Pitt. I look at the list and see the names like Chevy, Curtis Aiken and Jaron Brown. I just look at it as something to be thankful for that I was able to play at a school with a history like this."
On defending a disciplined offensive team:
"You have to make sure you stand solid, keep talking and limit the amount of open shots. The way that we're effective defensively is to play as a team. We're satisfied that we did it for twenty minutes, but to get where we want to go we need to do it for the whole game."
Quoting Pitt's Levance Fields:
On Pitt's killer instinct:
"There was some miscommunication on D and on certain plays the killer instinct wasn't there. To be successful we have to talk to each other, and make sure that we're all on the same page.
Quoting Pitt's Levon Kendall:
On rebounds being as valuable as points:
"Rebounds are something we strive for, something we need to be successful as a team. Our goal is to beat the other team by at least ten rebounds every game. Usually when we get an offensive rebound there's a good chance for an easy lay-up, and it's nice to put two checks in the points column."
Quoting Vermont Head Coach Mike Lonergan:
Opening Comments:
"I thought our guys played real hard. I told them I thought Pitt might come out a little flat because of exam week. I thought that played perfectly into our hands. We were up six or eight early, and then we just didn't make any shots. Then Pitt started turning it on and we didn't respond. We got the ball inside a decent amount of times but we just couldn't finish. I think that's because of the size and strength of
