Davies Moves Up On Career Doubles List

PITTSBURGH--Senior Annie Davies moved up the career records and claimed the second-best overall total in doubles wins with 61 victories, as Pitt's women's tennis team defeated cross-town rival Carnegie Mellon, 7-2, at the CMU Tennis Courts, this afternoon. The Panthers improved to 8-3 on the season, while the Tartans dropped to 7-5.

Currently, Davies has 122 victories on the season, which is two wins short of tying the all-time career record for wins set by Fran Davis (1994-98).
For the ninth time this season, the Panthers swept doubles, however it wasn't easy. Playing through injury in No. 1 doubles, junior Leah Friedman (
Ranked 10th in the nation, Carnegie Mellon (Division III) played the Panthers very close in singles action, forcing three matches into tie breakers
Borza was the first Panther to play a tie breaker in singles, as she battled back after being down 0-4 in the first set. She later took the second set, giving up just one point.
Continuing her success and adding on to the best-start ever for a Panther, freshman Sabrina Visram (
Freshman Anna Broverman (Asbury, W.Va./George Washington) played in her first match of the spring in the No. 6 slot, earning a win, while giving up just one point in both sets.
Junior Carlie Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Prep) earned a spot in No. 2 singles this afternoon and played a very tough match against one of Carnegie Mellon's ranked opponents. Smith dropped the first set, but forced tie breaker when she won the second set, 6-3. Smith had the upper hand in the tie breaker but had to take a break for injury. She returned strong but ended up dropping the match 13-11.
