Softball Hosts Two Big East Doubleheaders this Week

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh softball team resumes Big East action at home with doubleheaders against No. 18 Louisville on Friday, April 10, at 2 p.m., and Villanova on Saturday, April 11, at noon.
Pitt (15-18, 3-9 Big East) is coming off a 1-3 road record against conference foes Notre Dame and DePaul. Splitting with the Fighting Irish, sophomore Cory Berliner earned a win in game one, giving up five hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Sophomore Alyssa O’Connell picked up her first save of the season after entering that same contest in the sixth inning.
Louisville is coming off a 5-1 decision over non-conference foe Kentucky. The No. 18 ranked Cardinals (34-5, 10-2 Big East) were lead by Vanessa James, who delivered her team-high fourth triple of the season to secure the win. The Cards lead the all-time series, 3-1.
Villanova is coming off a split in its mid-week doubleheader against Providence. The Wildcats (16-14, 2-9 Big East) earned the win in the first game off Caitlyn Delahaba throwing a complete game, while allowing just four hits and striking out five batters. Villanova leads the series against Pitt, 12-9.
