POST-GAME QUOTES
Pitt 72, Louisville 69
February 10, 2010 – Petersen Events Center
Quoting Pitt’s Head coach Agnus Berenato
Opening Statement...
“It was a really great win. I felt honored that Dr. Davidson who is director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Cancer Institute could be our guest coach. She took the time out of her schedule in order to contribute to the breast cancer awareness cause. For her, she was around our student athletes for the first time and she was out of her comfort zone. For our girls, we felt like that too in the game. We’ve come close to winning so many games and we just weren’t able to get it done. Tonight we had to go out and run a lot of sets. That’s something we haven’t done all year. Brittaney Thomas really stepped up for us today. She was hitting her shots and we were calling her number for our sets. In addition, we had four players in double figures and we were taking care of the ball by passing it more and coming up with key assists. Chelsea Cole also came up with some big blocks. I was a little disappointed with our rebounds and our turnovers. We came out and we were so excited to play and we had a lot of turnovers in the first ten minuets. We just needed to settle down and we did that as the game went on.”
On the game...
“We’ve had some tough set backs in the past few games and with Georgetown, we all felt as if our guts were ripped out. This week in practice we worked on finishing. I felt that there wasn’t anyone who wanted to take the shots. Tonight, we did things differently and I called the sets. It took the pressure off.”
On Brittaney Thomas stepping up...
“In past few losses, I felt there was a different player, someone who wasn’t the role player, stepped up and made the plays. That’s what wins games. Tonight, Brittaney was that player. She was making her shots and she likes to shoot. It’s good to have some else step up.”
On winning on Pink the Petersen...
“It means a lot. I tell my players all the time that what happens on the court also happens in life. We were 1-9 in the Big East and for me, those were nine bad days in the office. But for someone who is unemployed, they have more than nine bad days. The two go hand-in-hand. Today’s cause resembles the battle against breast cancer and we’re battling on the court. It’s inspiring.”
On the total team contribution...
“It’s important to have others scoring because we don’t have that one player that can do it on her own, we don’t have Shavonte Zellous to put up a ton of points. Therefore, we have to balance out the scoring and the assists. We went out there and did that and we had four players in double figures.
Quoting Brittaney Thomas
On having a breakout game and hitting big shots...
“I've been talking to coach and thinking about a game like this. I felt like when I got hot I was really in the flow of the game. My teammates and coaches kept telling me to shoot. I just turned it on from there.”
Quoting Director of University of Pittsburgh’s Cancer Institute, Dr. Nancy Davidson
On being a guest coach...
“It was wonderful. I was a little out of my comfort zone, but Coach Berenato is right, the concepts go with each other. It’s important to raise awareness for the Breast Cancer cause and it takes a lot of teamwork and to do that. It was great to be apart of it.”
