Taneisha Harrison had 27 points, leading the team in the scoring column for the 12th time this season. Harrison has scored in double figures in 20 of 24 games in 2010-11.
The 27 point effort was the third 25-plus mark for Harrison this season.
Senior Chelsea Cole recorded her BIG EAST leading 13th double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds. She now has 23 double-doubles over her career.
Cole grabbed 17 rebounds, a season-high. She topped her previous high 14 reached in two contests. Cole’s top-three rebounding performances have all come against BIG EAST competition. Cole has posted double-digit rebounding totals in 16 games. The 17 boards were the most since last season against Seton Hall (22 rebounds on Feb. 20, 2010).
Cole took over sole possession of seventh place in rebounds in the Pitt record book and moved into seventh place in blocked shots.
Cole posted four blocks on the afternoon, tying a career-high for the fifth time this season. She has 24 blocks in the past seven games (3.4).
Senior Jania Sims had 15 points, including a 7-of-7 showing from the free throw line. Sims, who leads the BIG EAST in free throw percentage, hit perfect from the stripe for the 10th time thie season. The seven makes are a season-high for Sims.
Sims had 11 of her 15 points in the second half.
Redshirt freshman Ashlee Anderson registered 10 points, her third double-figure scoring output this season and first since Marquette on Jan. 29 (11).
Pitt improves to 6-2 all-time against USF. With today’s four point outcome, five of the eight games have been decided by four points or less.
The 57.1 percent shooting afternoon for the Panthers was the third best field goal percentage of the season.
The 60 percent second half shooting mark ties the best in a second half of play this season. Pitt shot 60 percent, as well, from the field vs. UT Arlington and Loyola.
The win was the first this season when down with five minutes to go (1-11), trailing with 10 minutes to go (1-11) and when behind at intermission (1-12).
The victory over USF was also largest comeback win for Pitt this season. They trailed by 11 points at the 14:28 mark of the second half. Previously the greatest come-from-behind win in 2010-11 was the victory a week ago over WVU (down by 4, 2:40, 2nd half).
The 11-point comeback was the largest for a Panthers team since the 2008-09 season when Pitt rebounded from 12-points back to win at West Virginia, 72-60 on Feb. 24, 2009.
