PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie with visiting USF on Sunday at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The draw moves both teams' Big East record to 0-1-1.
Pitt ended a four-match scoreless streak with two goals in a span of three minutes, 26 seconds. Freshman Ali Matisse and Sophomore Katelyn Lippert scored for the Panthers, both in the second half.
Following a scoreless first half, the Panthers struck first on Matisse's goal in the 48th minute. Katelyn Ruhe recorded an assist on the score. She is Pitt's all-time leader in that category with 17 in her career.
It took the Bulls just 13 seconds to tie the game as Taylor Patterson scored off an assist from Demi Stokes.
The Panthers battled right back and regained the lead on Lippert's first goal of the season. She found the back of the net after receiving a through ball from Nicole Stiles in the 51st minute.
Stokes scored the equalizer for the Bulls in the 61st minute. Molly Stack delivered the corner kick, and Stokes beat the Panther goalie after a scramble in front of the net.
"We got the early goal, which is what we wanted," Pitt coach Sue-Moy Chin said. "I'm very disappointed that we allowed them to come right back, but I thought it was tremendous we were able to respond so quickly with another goal."
Pitt's Kristina Rioux made 12 saves. USF goalie Nicole McClure stopped eight shots.
Pitt is now 1-1-5 all-time against USF. The five ties with the Bulls are the most for the Panthers against any opponent.
Pitt is back in action on Friday, Sept. 23, hosting Rutgers. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
