PITTSBURGH – For a third straight year, members of the University of Pittsburgh track and field team visited downtown’s Market Square to donate the canned food items they collected during their Blue/Gold Intrasquad Meet.
Led by Assistant Head Coach Kia Davis, Dustin Fuller of the men’s team, and Savannah Cameron, Lydia Dennis, Khadeja Kearney, Zoey Whittington and Alyssa Wise of the women’s team helped deliver over 100 pounds of canned goods to Market Square.
The Panthers also participated in the athletic department’s annual Toys 4 Tots initiative by giving more than 50 toys to be distributed over the holiday season.
"Giving back is probably one of the most commendable and liberating virtues that we can do," Davis said. "We, as a staff, try to instill in our athletes that giving back and putting the needs of others before ours is important. Our athletes love to do this every year."
The Panthers are coming off a great start to the 2014-15 season at last week’s Kent State Golden Flash Gala in which they have six first-place finishes and a new school record established by Luke Gallaher in the pentathlon. That was their only meet before the New Year and they will resume action on Jan. 10 at Penn State.
