
Day One Complete at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pittsburgh turned in their first performances of the Penn Relays held at the University of Pennsylvania on Franklin Field. Head coach Alonzo Webb received the famous yellow officials' hat on Thursday. Webb has been named the Honorary College Women's Referee for this year's Relays for his outstanding contributions to track and field.
In day one of competition for the Panthers, Evann Thompson finished 12th in women's 400 meter hurdles (1:00.07). Mariame Conde crossed the finish line at 1:03.00, which marks her second best time in the 400 meter hurdles.
Also, representing for the Pitt women, Ashley Corum turned in another top-15 performance in the women's long jump event with a leap of 5.49 meters (18-¼). Corum will next participate in the triple jump on Friday evening.
In the first day of the throws, Taylor Slaney competed in the women's javelin championship, recording a distance of 43.04 meters.
