PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's soccer team (5-8-3, 0-6-1 ACC) suffered a 1-0 loss to Duke (8-6-2, 2-4-1 ACC) Friday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
"It was a tough loss," head coach Joe Luxbacher said. "I think we gave up that goal in the first half on a mistake in the middle of the field. We gave up the ball, and they punished us for it. You have to score goals. We only gave up one goal and they're probably the top offensive team in the ACC."
In its final home game of the season, Pitt struggled on the attack only attempting two shots. Senior goalkeeper Dan Lynd made three saves on the night, giving him 223 total saves throughout his four years as a Panthers. His career saves rank sixth-best in the program.
"It was a tough one," Lynd said. "We played so well, but one mistake in the first half cost us the game unfortunately, but it's hard to win when you have two shots. It's a problem we've had all season, not being able to get goals. Giving up one in the first half really made us have to stretch a bit in the second half, and it just didn't happen for us."
The Blue Devils struck in the 25th minute off a Jeremy Ebobisse goal from the left side that went over right over Lynd as he began to approach his opponent.
The Panthers would go on to hold Duke scoreless for the remainder of the game and were unable to produce any more than one shot in the second half.
Pitt hits the road for its final regular season game on Saturday, Oct. 31, to take on No. 5 Notre Dame for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN3.
