
Track and Field Set for Blue-Gold Meet

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to kick off the 2015-16 this weekend with their annual Blue-Gold Meet on Friday and Saturday at the Cost Center and Fitzgerald Field House.
The meet will begin on Friday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. with field events at the Cost Center, including the long jump, weight throw, shot put, high jump and triple jump.
Running events on Friday evening will start at 4:10 p.m. with the prelims of the women’s 60 meter dash. After the men’s 60 meter prelims, there will then be prelims of the 60 meter hurdles, which will be followed by finals of both the 60 meter dash and the 60 meter hurdles.
Saturday’s action at the Fitzgerald Field House will begin at 10 a.m. with the 150 meter dash. Other track events on Saturday will include the 500 meter dash, 300 meter dash, 600 meter run, 1,000 meter run, and the men’s and women’s 4x400 meter relay which will conclude action at 12:10 and 12:30 p.m., respectively.
The Panthers return a host of talent to their roster this season, including Outdoor First Team All-America performer Desmond Palmer, and Honorable Mention All-America honoree Evann Thompson.
Other impact performers returning from last season on the women’s side include sophomores Laila Ismail and Dominique Watkins, along with senior hurdler Khadeja Kearney and thrower Andin Fosam. Coming off successful cross country seasons, Gillian Schriever and Melanie Vlasic look to carry that momentum over to the track.
The men’s team returns Indoor First Team All-ACC hurdler Ashad Johnson-Conley, as well as jumper Imani Brown, sprinters Christopher Tate, Brylan Slay, Dustin Fuller and Donnell Taylor, and thrower Andrew Wells.
After the Blue-Gold Meet this weekend, the Panthers compete at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala next weekend, December 11-12, in Kent, Ohio.
