JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Pittsburgh track and field team will have junior Evann Thompson and sophomore Desmond Palmer represent the Panthers at the NCAA National Championship Meet after Pitt did not have anyone else qualify on the final day of the NCAA East Prelims at Hodges Stadium.
Thompson will run in the women's 400 meter hurdles, while Palmer will run in the men's 400 meter hurdles at legendary Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, set for June 10-13.
The Panthers participated in three events on the final day of action at North Florida, but failed to qualify for nationals in any of them.
In the final event of the night, the men's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Palmer, Christopher Tate, Donnell Taylor and Brylan Slay ran a time of 3:08.54 which placed them sixth in their heat and 18th overall. The top three teams from each of the three heats, plus the next three fastest times overall qualified for Eugene.
The Panthers had LSU and Ohio State both in their heat as those schools ran the two fastest overall times of the night in 3:02.48 and 3:02.67, respectively.
Junior Imani Brown in the men's triple jump was unable to advance to Eugene as he placed 35th overall. After jumps of 14.57m and 14.41m, his third and final attempt went 14.89m, but he would have needed a 15.60m to move on.
In the women's hammer throw, senior Haley Springman fouled on all three of her attempts and finished in a tie for 43rd.
