GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Recent graduates Savannah King and Carly Thea, along with junior Jenna Modic and redshirt junior Maggie Sevilla have been named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Softball Team, as announced by league officials on Tuesday.
"We take great pride in both our athletic and academic accomplishments at Pitt," said head coach Holly Aprile. "To have four of our student-athletes named to the All-ACC Academic Team is just outstanding. We are extremely proud of the efforts put forth by Maggie, Savannah, Carly, and Jenna both on and off the field this season."
Pitt's four honorees tie with Virginia Tech and rank third with most selections of the 11 total schools in the ACC that support softball.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
Thea graduated with a degree in Rhetoric and Communication and was also an All-ACC Academic Team selection last year. On the field, Thea was a key ingredient to the Panthers' historical postseason run. She finished her career with a .305 average and 85 runs. In addition to the Academic team, Thea was also named NFCA Third Team All-Region and to the ACC All-Tournament Team.
King graduated from Pitt with a degree in Rehabilitation Science. The senior pitcher collected numerous honors throughout the historical season including NFCA First Team All-Region, ACC All-Tournament Team and ACC Pitcher of the Week (2/16/15). On the mound, King had a successful senior campaign as she etched her name in the programs career record book. She leaves Pitt with top spots in appearances (153), complete games (69), innings (738.1) and wins (56).
Sevilla, a Psychology and Administration of Justice major, will return to second base next season after a successful 2015 campaign. She finished the season with 71 hits and 198 at-bats, good for first and second, respectively, in the single-season batting record book.
Modic, a Media and Professional Communications major, has already collected numerous honors in 2015 including NFCA Third Team All-Region, First Team All-ACC, and ACC Player of the Week (3/2/15). The designated hitter finished her first season at Pitt with a .319 average, 25 runs, and 61 hits.
NC State's Emily Weiman was name the ACC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
