PITTSBURGH - The Pitt track and field team hosted its annual Blue-Gold intrasquad meet Friday and Saturday to kick off the 2016-17 season.

"We look forward to this meet every year," head coach Alonzo Webb said. "This year we had some alumni come back and compete in the meet, which was kind of special. They ran a 4x200. We had some great performances today and hopefully this is going to kick off a good season for us."

Teams competed at the Cost Center Friday afternoon and wrapped things up at Fitzgerald Field House Saturday monring.

On the men's side, the Panthers return 2015-16 All-ACC performers in Ashad Johnson-Conley (sprints/hurdles), Grant Jones (throws), Joshua McDonald (sprints), Desmond Palmer (hurdles) and Brylan Slay (sprints). Palmer represented Pitt at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, earning All-America second team honors.

The women return 2015-16 All-ACC honorees in Kelly Hayes (distance), Laila Ismail (hurdles) and Gillian Schriever (distance). Schriever recently closed out cross country season by becoming the first Pitt runner to compete at the National Championship meet since 2004. She earned All-ACC and All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors.
