
Pitt has Successful Weekend at Three Different Meets

PENN RELAYS RESULTS | BUFFALO RESULTS | ASHLAND RESULTS
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Pitt women’s distance team took victories in the 800 and 1,500 meter run at the Buffalo Invitational to highlight track and field’s efforts this weekend as the team was at three separate meets.
The Panthers took places 1-3 in the 1,500, led by Amy Kelly who won the race in a time of 4:29.85. She was followed closely by Melanie Vlasic who placed second in 4:30.18 and Ellen Crook who took third in 4:30.28.
Not only did they sweep the top three places, but they had five of the top six finishers as Makenzie Zeh was fifth overall (4:42.56) and Erin O’Connell sixth (4:45.16).
Pitt also took the top two spots in the women’s 800 meter run. Sophomore Beth Shenck won the race in 2:12.81 and just finished ahead of teammate Miranda Salvo who ran a 2:12.95 for second. The Panthers had five in the top 10 of that race as Jamila Branch placed sixth, Kristyna Finikiotis eighth and Rachelle Mueller tenth.
The men also had a solid showing in the 1,500 meter run at Buffalo as Nate Sloan ran a season-best 3:51.31 to place second, while Billy Caldwell placed third in a career-best 3:52.48.
At the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Morgan Harvey and Laila Ismail opened the action for the Panthers on Thursday in the 400 meter hurdles. In a field of 52, Harvey ran a 1:01.78 to place 13th overall, while Ismail was 19th in 1:02.02.
Harvey and Ismail then combined with Alyssa Wise and Desiree Garland to run a season-best 1:37.09 in the ECAC heat of the 4x200 relay as the Panthers took second place.
All-American Desmond Palmer placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.81, while freshman Grant Jones had a PR in the javelin at 64.16m and placed seventh overall.
Additionally, former standouts Brycen Spratling and Cambria Jones represented Team USA. Spratling helped America win the USA vs. The World 4x400 relay as Team USA posted a 3:02.32, while Jones was a part of the winning 4x200 relay team in the USA vs. The World race as American won in 1:31.17.
At the Ashland Open, sophomore Andin Fosam took third place in the hammer throw in the invitational division with a throw of 55.22m, and Kailyn Clancy was fourth in the open division with a distance of 48.09m.
The Panthers continue action next weekend at the Kehoe Twilight hosted by Maryland, which will be their final meet before the ACC Championship Meet in Tallahassee from May 12-14.
