Palmer, 4x400 Relay Open NCAA Championships Wednesday

PITTSBURGH – Junior Desmond Palmer is set to make his third appearance individually at the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships Wednesday, June 8 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., in addition to the 4x400 meter relay alongside first-time NCAA qualifiers seniors Donnell Taylor, Chris Tate and junior Brylan Slay.

WHEN THEY RUN

The 400 meter hurdles semifinal is set for 6:30 p.m., while the semifinal of the 4x400 relay will be the last event of the night at 7:48 p.m. The finals for all men's events will be Friday, June 10. For a complete schedule click here.

PALMER IN THE 400mH

The Pickerington, Ohio native comes to Eugene ranked fourth in the nation after successfully defending his title at the 2016 ACC Championships with a season-best 49.66. In his last time out at the East Prelims, Palmer earned a qualifying spot to nationals after a third-place finish in his heat and ran the sixth-best time in the East.

As a freshman, Palmer finished 16^th at Historic Hayward Field, earning Second-Team All-America accolades. A year later, Palmer came back to place eighth and became a First-Team All-American honoree. Now with two successful years under his belt, Palmer looks to improve yet again.

4x400 RELAY RETURNS

The men's 4x400 relay is making its first outdoor championship appearance since 2014, which Palmer was also a part of. The team finished 11^th in the nation with a time of 3:06.61. This year, the Panthers own the 34^th fastest time in the nation entering this week thanks to a season-best 3:06.23 that was set at the ACC Championships. The current Panthers punched their tickets after taking the 12^th and final spot in relay qualifiers out of the East Prelims. This will be the first appearance for Taylor, Tate and Slay at the national championship.
